Aurora cabin Lapland
Aurora Cabin Lapland is located in the heart of our quiet Arctic village in Enontekiö, just 20 km from Hetta. Surrounded by windows on every side, this unique little cabin lets you watch the Northern Lights in warmth and comfort, while outside a vast wilderness and a national park stretch beyond the horizon. It’s a rare chance to feel both the intimacy of village life and the grandeur of Lapland’s wild beauty.
Aurora views all around
The Northern Lights often dance across the night sky in stunning colors. Location is the most important factor when you want to see the Aurora Borealis, and our Aurora cabin Lapland is set in the far north of Enontekiö. Upstairs, wide windows on every side open the view to the northern sky in all directions, making the cabin an ideal place to experience the auroras. Thanks to this northern location, on clear nights it is more likely to see the auroras than not. And because our village is small, there is almost no light pollution once the streetlights are switched off at 11 p.m.
Stunning location
To the south, the view opens toward a national park; to the north, endless wilderness stretches out. From the upstairs loft, wide windows on every side let the landscape unfold in all directions. Though aurora cabin Lapland is set in the heart of our small village, the atmosphere remains calm and unhurried. Here you can feel both the rhythm of everyday village life and the vast openness of Lapland’s horizon.
Full facilities
Our aurora cabin Lapland includes a kitchen, a bathroom with shower, and an upstairs loft for sleeping. It is best suited for two or three adults, with a maximum capacity of four guests. Sleeping arrangements include one 120 cm double bed, one 80 cm single bed, and a fold-out chair downstairs, offering flexibility for small groups. The stairs to the loft are very steep, so the cabin is not suitable for guests with mobility challenges and not recommended for children under 15. There are no separate bedrooms, as the loft is an open sleeping space above the kitchen and bathroom.
Unique history
Our aurora cabin Lapland has a story unlike any other. It was originally built for research, to study how Arctic conditions affect building structures. Because of this, the walls still carry small holes and traces left by instruments once measuring the harsh northern climate. These marks are not hidden or repaired; they remain as part of the cabin’s identity, a reminder of its unusual past.
The cabin has long been called Lumikko, a name that carries several layers of meaning. In Finnish it is the word for the stoat or weasel (Mustela nivalis), but it is also a play on words: Lumi (snow) and Koe (experiment). From LumiKoe grew Lumikko, a name that now links Arctic science with the warmth of a personal stay.
