Reviews of our snowmobile safaris

Rated 5 out of 5

”Had such an amazing trip out in the snowmobiles with Saija. Incredible scenery off the beaten track. Felt like we had our own personal santas grotto for a couple of hrs. Absolutely breathtaking. Can’t speak highly enough about how welcome we felt and how well organised Saija was with extra warm clothing for us and our 10 year old. Probably one of the best trips we have done in over 30years of travelling. Highly recommended.”

Small-Group Snowmobile Safaris in Real Wilderness

Our snowmobile safaris take you into real wilderness, not on marked routes. You drive along the same paths we and other locals use. Our snowmobile safaris are not just about driving a snowmobile, but also a way to get to know the nature around us and learn about the local way of life. You begin to see the marks in nature of how people live here. The wilderness here is our home.

We are able to provide this kind of authentic and special experience by keeping the group size small. On our snowmobile safaris, there are only three snowmobiles following us. This allows us to keep the experience personal and really bring out Arctic nature and local lifestyle. We also organize private snowmobile safaris for larger groups.

Trails and Landscapes

The trails we follow are varied. We move through forest, across frozen wetlands and lakes, and along rivers. In March and April, it is also possible to reach the open tundra, where the forest disappears and the landscape turns into open fell areas. This kind of open fell landscape is rare in Lapland.

What Adventure Means to Us

Adventure means to us learning how to act in different situations in the wild. It means that you get a feel for Arctic nature and can possibly even make predictions based on what you have learned. It also means that you have to respect nature. Adventure never means speeding on our tours. We drive slowly and safety always comes first. Tours are always carried out taking into account both the natural conditions and the people involved.

Choosing the Right Snowmobile Safari

If your group consists of adults and your visit is from late November to the end of February, choose Snowmobile Safari in the Wilderness.

If there are children under 135 cm tall in your group, choose Easy Snowmobile Tour. On this tour, we pull a sleigh where smaller children under 135 cm can sit, as well as anyone else who prefers to sit in the sleigh.

If your child is at least 135 cm tall, they can sit behind you on your snowmobile, and you can choose Snowmobile Safari in the Wilderness.

If you visit Lapland in March or April and your group includes adults and teenagers at least 14 years old, Full Day Snowmobiling in the Tundra is the best option.

Why We Do Not Organize Snowmobile Safaris at Night

Snowmobiles require strong lights, which create light pollution and significantly reduce the visibility of the Northern Lights.

Our snowmobile safaris are designed for exploring the Arctic wilderness during daylight, when the landscape and surroundings can be fully experienced.

Our evening experiences are carefully designed for Northern Lights viewing. They take place in deep darkness. You can read more about our Northern Lights tours.

Requirements for Snowmobile Safaris

  • Warm winter clothing and winter shoes
  • Minimum age to drive: 15 years
  • A guardian must join the tour and take responsibility for a minor’s snowmobile
  • Minimum height 135 cm to sit behind an adult on a snowmobile
  • Smaller children travel in a sleigh (Easy Snowmobile Tour)
  • Minimum age for sleigh: 3 years (please contact us for ages 2–3)

Please note

  • Three snowmobiles can be booked through the online store. If your group needs more, please contact us before booking and we will organize a private tour at the same prices.
  • If there is an odd number of people in your group, at least one “adult driving alone” must be booked at a higher price.
  • Driver’s self-liability in case of a snowmobile accident is a maximum of 1800 € per snowmobile.
  • If a heated helmet is available and you choose to use it, you are responsible for the heater in case of damage.
  • Please let us know your hotel or cabin in Hetta if you need a pickup

Safety and Local Knowledge

Our knowledge comes from a lifetime in this environment and from what has been passed down to us. We know how to read the conditions and how to move safely in changing weather. Before departure, we go through how to drive and how to act with the snowmobile, so you can feel confident from the start. You do not need any previous snowmobile experience.

For safety and convenience, each snowmobile is shared only by people from the same group. This is why at least one “adult driving alone” must be booked if your group size is uneven.

We review your clothing and shoes and assess whether they are adequate for the current conditions. Warm winter clothing and shoes are required. We may have additional gear available if something suitable is available for you. Everyone will at least receive an extra outer coat to wear over their own winter clothing. For children, we always have additional clothing available. We recommend bringing hand and foot warmers for children during the safari. Warm mittens are available if needed.

Snowmobiles have effective heated handles, and when you keep your feet close to the engine while driving, the engine heat helps keep them warm. We also have helmets with heated visors available. The heating prevents the visor from fogging and helps protect your face. Power for the visor heater comes directly from the snowmobile.

If the temperature drops below -32°C, the safari will be cancelled. Tours are always carried out with careful consideration of weather conditions.

You are responsible for the snowmobile you are driving. The maximum self-liability is 1800 €. If you use a heated visor, you are also responsible for it in case of damage.

How it works

Booking

You can reserve your snowmobile safari through our online store. In some cases, your booking will first be confirmed before payment.

First, select the date and time.

When booking, add one snowmobile at a time to your cart. Keep the quantity as one and choose who will sit on that snowmobile, for example one adult, two adults, or one adult and one child. Add each snowmobile to the cart separately until all snowmobile seats for your group are reserved.

Sleigh seats are selected on the following page. They are only available on the Easy Snowmobile Tour.

Please let us know your accommodation in Hetta so we can arrange pickup if needed, or let us know if you will arrive with your own car.

Up to three snowmobiles can be booked through the online store. If your group needs more, please contact us before booking.

Arrival

You are either picked up from your accommodation in Hetta or arrive at our meeting point in Vuontisjärvi Enontekiö.

At the starting point, we go through your clothing and provide additional gear if something suitable is available. We also explain how to drive and go through all safety instructions before departure.

The experience

During the safari, we lead the way through carefully chosen routes, ensuring both safety and a meaningful experience.

After the visit

After the tour, we return to the starting point or your accommodation.
