Aurora Horse Sleigh Ride

Sitting in a sleigh pulled by a horse in the dark snowy forest is something magical. When the Northern Lights dance in the night sky, it even gives us chills, it is such a fascinating experience. When a horse pulls a sleigh, there is no light pollution anywhere, it’s just us and nature. The silence is broken only by the sound of the sleigh moving through the snow and the bell tinkling on the horse’s harness. In the old days, horses were used for farming and forestry work also in this area. Our horses’ harnesses are traditional work harnesses. The bell, which my grandfather once used with his horse, still jingles with us today.

Enjoy a variety of lappish dishes while watching the night sky. We will take a sleigh ride pulled by snowmobile for the Northern Lights. In autumn we go by car and walk. We will reach open area in the wilderness, where the sky is wide. There is not a single artificial light around. The sleigh ride or car ride ends to our backyard, in the old meadow, which is a great place to see the Northern Lights. You will experience our traditional hut, laavu and eat delicious traditional food with local ingredients.

We only organize the expedition on evenings when conditions look favorable, drawing on our knowledge of the northern skies and our home region. In winter, the journey takes you by sleigh into the wilderness; in autumn, by car and short walks into places free from any light pollution.
You only need to tell us your dates in Hetta, and we will take care of the rest.

The single most important factor for seeing the Northern Lights is northern location and our Northern Lights tours take place in the far north of Finnish Lapland, one of the best places on Earth to witness them. Statistically, the auroras appear here on about 75% of clear nights from September to April.
But we go further. Each tour leads you into the wilderness, away from villages, roads, and any trace of light pollution. In these untouched landscapes, even the faintest auroras become visible. Delicate ribbons of lights that might otherwise go unnoticed. Here, the silence is deep, the sky is wide, and the Northern Lights reveal their true magic.

We have carefully planned each Northern Lights tour so that waiting never feels empty. Along the way, there are meaningful experiences that make the time enjoyable and, at the same time, maximize your chances of seeing the auroras. And even if the lights do not appear, you will still take home beautiful memories of the night.
You may warm yourself by the fire in our traditional Sámi hut laavu and taste Lappish delicacies prepared with local ingredients. Or glide quietly through the forest on a horse-drawn sleigh, where the only sound is the sleigh moving through snow and a bell gently ringing along the way. In autumn, perhaps you will paddle across a still lake, watching the stars reflect on the water.
And when the Northern Lights do appear, you will have the peace to truly enjoy them. Our groups are always small, and we guide you to places where there are no other people. This means that when the sky begins to glow, it is just us and the silence of the Arctic night. The Northern Lights will find their way into your soul.
During the night, our focus is always on the Northern Lights. That is why we do not offer snowmobile safaris as Northern Lights tour. The headlights and driving would disturb the darkness and the auroras. We only use snowmobiles for short transfers, with guests seated in sleigh. Snowmobiling is a fun adventure, but best enjoyed in daylight, when the landscape can be experienced in a completely different way.

We organize the expedition only in the evenings, when we believe there are good chances of seeing the Northern Lights. If we don’t see any northern lights during the tour, we’ll give you your money back. Please read carefully how to book the tour, the booking method is special and organization is part of the service.

Canoeing under the Northern Lights
- exciting and fun
Canoeing or kayaking on the lake is exciting and lots of fun and magical under the Northern Lights and even with a reflection on the water! You are able to choose between a canoe seat, a kayak seat or a boat seat. The tour is an easy tour with a small stable traditional boat. Canoe and kayak are more unstable. If you decide to choose a kayak, you must inform me of your height. Swimming skills and at least age of 15 required.

Overnight Autumn Aurora Adventure
- Magical overnight tour in the wilderness
We will take a walk 4…5 km to a big lake in the wilderness. If we are lucky, we will not only see the northern lights dancing in the sky, but we will also see their dance reflected in the surface of the lake. You can enjoy the moment and photograph the Northern Lights all night if you want and warm up in the bunker tent once in a while. The bunker tent is heated by wood burning stove. You will have time to fall asleep before our walk back the next day.
